I'm moving all the posts from the old board to this one, so this is an old post originally posted on December 13th, 2008. Wanted to give people a chance to talk about it still.Just got this email today:

Sounds alright, I'll have to research what he's done in the past and good lord, I hope he remains faithful to the book. I cannot stand it when a director changes major parts of the story. Gah, it frustrates me.
For example, the last Harry Potter movie out (the fifth, Order of the Phoniex). I had no complaints, thought it was one of the best. BUT, they made it so Harry and Cho Chang did not have a diffinative break up, like in the book. NOT. COOL. They needed to have that, "They are done, no more of them." scene to show the audience and those who do not read the books the whole story. Yeah, yeah I get the whole, "They can't do every scene in the book or else it'll be 4 hours" argument but they should NEVER cut out majoy details.

Well, it's not (always) the director who decides what actually makes the film. The screenwriter is the one in charge of the script, and the director films what they're given, then chooses from those scenes what makes the film. So if the screenwriter didn't put that in there, it wasn't filmed. :/
I've read that Ashley said the script is pretty close to the book, and that it'll be good, so I have to have faith that she's not just saying that to appease the fans.
