I don't think I have ever read a series, with as MUCH tension as there was in Twilight. First off, Bella is obviously new to the school, and she already has to deal with making friends, fitting in, the many whispers that go around the school, and a crazed Vamp that wants her blood more than anything else worth living for?
Going to a new school is never easy. I should know. I went to 12 different schools K-12th grade. Making friends seems easy, but there is always - always - that sense of being overwhelmed that kind of puts both parties off.
But through all that tension (not to mention the fact that Edward literally shared a bed with Bella, yet restrained himself every single time.
Ahh... what are your guys' thoughts on the tension in "Twilight"?

I definatly felt the awkwardness on the school end of things, especially illustrated in the movies. Everyone was almost too nice and welcoming especially because Bella is such an awkward, unsure character. The awkwardness of her paired with the overwelcoming students just makes tense, uneasy paragraphs.
